The Mechanism Of Signal Butterfly Valves
What is a Signal Butterfly Valve?
Signal butterfly valves are throttling devices suitable for fire protection systems in high-rise buildings and other pipeline systems that need to display the valve switching status. These crucial valves are connected to fire alarm systems and provide convenient control of fire-fighting water supplies during system maintenance.
How Does a Signal Butterfly Valve Work?
How does the signal butterfly valve control flow?
Signal sanitary butterfly valves achieve opening, closing, and flow control functions by using driving devices like worm gears and worm shafts to drive the rotation of the rotating axis and butterfly plate.
Simply rotate the worm gear and worm shaft’s handwheel to make the butterfly plate open, close, and change flow rate settings. Clockwise rotation of the handwheel closes the signal butterfly valve.
How to Set a Micro-Switch in the Transmission Box
There are two ways to set micro-switch in the transmission box of the worm gear and worm shaft:
- The transmission box is equipped with two micro-switches that indicate open and closed separately. These two switches operate when the signal butterfly valve is in full open and full closed status, respectively. When the indicated light source of “valve open” and “valve closed” in the control room is connected, the status of the valve will be accurately displayed.
- The transmission box is equipped with a micro-switch that indicates closed. When the butterfly plate moves from 0 to 40 degrees, the close signal of the valve should output. From 40 to 90-degree positions, the open signal of the valve is output. The protruding wheel of the micro-switch can be adjusted to show the different positions of the butterfly plate.
Where to Install a Signal Butterfly Valve
Signal butterfly valves can generally be installed in two different places: in front of the floor-level main pipe water flow indicator or the main pipe wet alarm valve.
Front of the floor-level main pipe water flow indicator:
In order to maintain the floor spray system:
- Close the butterfly valve, open the end to drain, and empty the water from the floor spray sprinkler system. No water is allowed in the sprinkler system.
- Close the butterfly valve. It should transmit a signal to the fire alarm system, which should receive a monitoring signal (called the signal butterfly valve) to remind the fire sprinkler system on this floor. If you receive a no water signal, it should be repaired as soon as possible.
Main pipe wet alarm valve:
One is to repair, and the second is to indicate that a signal butterfly valve in the sprinkler system is closed, and it should be repaired as soon as possible.
