Introduction of Emergency Shutdown Valve
What is an emergency shutdown valve?
Emergency shutdown valve is a new product developed in recent years. It’s increasingly applied in various projects. In the installation and debugging processes, we found some problems. Some are construction problems, others are design problems. A good product not only should have good quality itself, but the most important thing is also to let everyone know it, be familiar with it, and use it reasonably so that it can play its greatest role.
As we all know, traditionally, firefighting pipe networks and life pipe networks are two separate water supply systems. The water is supplied by two pump groups separately. A two-way pipeline supplies water for a long distance from the pump room to the building. The construction workload of laying two-way pipelines is large, the pipeline materials double, it’s inconvenient to identify certain pipes when repairing.
What are the firefighting pipes?
Firefighting pipes are not used for many years, so they’re prone to rust. Due to the decrease in corrosion, the pipe wall and interface are usually without pressure, but in the event of a fire, the pressure inside the pipeline suddenly increases, they’re prone to bursting, resulting in the firefighting system not being able to supply water. Because of these advantages, this product is gradually being welcomed by everyone.
How does an emergency shutdown valve work?
An emergency shutdown valve is one type of hydraulic control valve. It is composed of the sanitary valve, throttle valve, pilot valve, pressure gauge, and other pipe fittings. When the inlet pressure of the main valve is lower than the pressure set by the pilot valve, the pilot valve is in the open state. The pressure inside the lid chamber on the main valve is equal to the outlet pressure of the main valve, There is a pressure difference between the inlet and outlet, and water flows out through the outlet.
When the fire pump starts, or when the pressure in the variable frequency pump increases and exceeds the set pressure in the pilot valve, the pressure leading to the control pipe of the pilot valve from the inlet of the main valve increases, the pressure applied to the spring increases, pressing down tightly and making the valve core move down, which causes the pilot valve to close.
Meanwhile, the inlet pressure of the main valve is constantly added to the upper chamber of the main valve cover through the throttle valve, because the downward pressure on the valve flap is greater than the upward thrust, the main valve is closed. Please note that the key point is that when the inlet pressure is smaller than the set pressure, the valve is always in the open state, when the inlet pressure is greater than the set pressure, the valve is closed. Now there are many designers who mistakenly think that as long as the emergency shutdown valve is installed, it will be closed, regardless of the conditions. This is wrong.
