When the sanitary butterfly valve is used for the control of solid materials, it’s often used at the bottom of cans as a discharge valve. Since dust materials mostly contain particles large and small, the wear on the valve sealing surface is a sure thing. Improper selection of the model will greatly reduce the service life of the valve, or soon lead to leakage within the valve, affecting normal use.

Usually, in the PLC program, we prolong the motor vibration time in order to knock all materials out before closing the valve. Adjust the zero gauge of the weighing instrument, which displays zero after all the materials are knocked out when PLC sends a signal of closing the valve.

Replace triple eccentric butterfly valve with double eccentric elastic hard sealing butterfly valve. Since the valve seat of the triple eccentric butterfly valve is a slanted sealing surface, the materials can easily accumulate on the sealing surface, not being able to be quickly discharged.

In contrast, a single eccentric or double eccentric butterfly valve doesn’t have such a disadvantage. Even if there’re some materials on the sealing surface, they’re scraped off by the valve plate when the valve closes, ensuring good sealing and durability of the sealing surface.

In such a system, there’re other factors that need to be taken into account. For example, we can’t let the material rush directly into the valve plate. Also, the static pressure of the material must not exceed the designed pressure tolerance of the pneumatic butterfly valve.

The difference between a regulating valve and a conventional manual valve is that you can’t regard the regulating valve as an isolated component. Rather, it must be considered as part of the entire automatic control system.

Many of the problems in the use of regulating valves are not problems of selection and configuration but are because of users’ lack of understanding of regulating valve, leading to the inability of regulating valve to work well with the control system.

As long as the key to the problem is identified, correct selection of the valve and good debugging at the system debugging phase can greatly reduce the failure rate, making the automatic control system run stably in the long run.

Raw water tank

The raw water tank of the sanitary butterfly is used to precipitate large sediment particles and other precipitable substances in the water and can cushion the impact of unstable water pressure in the raw water pipe on the water treatment system.

Raw water pump

The raw water pump of the sanitary butterfly valve is used for constant system water supply pressure and stable water supply.

Multi-media filter

The main purpose of the filter layer is to remove sediment, rust, colloidal material, suspended matter, and other particles in raw water above 20um. Manual valve control or automatic controller can be used for a series of operations such as backflush and normal flush. It can guarantee the quality of water production and extend the service life of the equipment.

Activated carbon filter

The system adopts the shell-activated carbon filter, which can not only absorb electrolyte ions but also carry out ion exchange adsorption. In addition, as the adsorption increases the concentration of the surface being absorbed and copied, it also acts as a catalyst to remove the pigments, odors, large amounts of biochemical organics, reduce residual chlorine and pesticide pollutants and remove trihalides (THM) and other pollutants in the water. Furthermore, the equipment has a self-maintaining system and running costs are low.

Precision filter

The precision filter is used to remove suspended material, non-curved grain, and colloid, etc. in the water so that subsequent equipment such as RO system can operate more safely and reliably. The filter core is 5um molten spray filter core, and the purpose is to remove the impurities larger than 5um left out by the superior filter unit, so as to prevent them from entering the surface of the membrane damaged by the reverse osmosis device, and the desalination performance of the membrane is thus maintained.

Reverse Osmosis System

The reverse osmosis device is used to separate the solvent (usually water) from the solvent in the solution by the reverse osmosis membrane (or semi-permeable membrane), and this process is called reverse osmosis because it is opposite to natural osmosis. The reverse osmosis method can adapt to all kinds of raw water with salt content, especially in water treatment engineering with high salt content, which can obtain good technical and economic benefits. Besides, the reverse osmosis equipment removes most bacteria, colloids, and organics with large molecular weight while removing salt.

Features of Ball Valves and Butterfly Valves

Ball valves have very little flow resistance because the diameter of the ball’s opening is usually equal to the pipeline diameter. In this manner, ball valves have a resistance coefficient similar to that of a pipe section of the same length, allowing the fluid medium to flow through unhindered. Ball valves are easy to operate; they only need to rotate 90° to go from fully open to closed. This quick actuation is why they’re often used as emergency shutdown valves. Similarly, the butterfly valve is also in the quarter-turn industrial valve family. Their rapid actuation is equal to that of ball valves.

Instead of a round ball inside, butterfly valves have a flat disc that rotates 90° to open and close. This butterfly disc seals the valve shut when faced perpendicular to the pipeline’s flow direction and opens when turned parallel to it. 7 Differences Between Butterfly Valves and Ball Valves

1. Sealing Performance

Sealing is the primary criterion for measuring valve quality. Both ball valves and butterfly valves meet the needs of the heating pipe network and will not affect the regular maintenance and repair of the pipe network.

Ball valves generally have better sealing performance than butterfly valves. Ball valves have a more robust sealing framework to meet two-way zero leakage requirements and achieve multiple ANSI classifications. Butterfly valves are typically manufactured to meet the two-way ANSI V standard with no visible leakage. Since ball valves provide superior sealing performance, they are more suitable for applications where avoiding contamination is a priority.

2. Flow Capacity

Ball valves provide better flow capacity than butterfly valves. The butterfly valve plate and valve shaft occupy the center of the flow channel when open, impeding the flow of the medium and causing a substantial pressure drop. Ball valves are better suited for applications where strict flow capacity regulation is a priority.

3. Size and Weight

As for the size and weight, ball valves are typically manufactured with smaller internal diameters below DN300 (DN stands for Diameter Nominal). Smaller diameter pipelines can benefit more from using ball valves because they will not slow down the flow rate. In larger diameter pipe systems above DN300, a loss in flow capacity is not as significant, so butterfly valves will perform sufficiently. In applications above DN300, butterfly valves are lighter and more compact, which can be installed more easily in existing industrial pipelines.

4. Valve Operating Torque

Operating torque refers to the force required to rotate a valve to the on or off position. The operating torque of butterfly valves is usually smaller than that of ball valves. Usually, the butterfly valve has three eccentric metal sealing valves, so its opening and closing torque are minimal. As ball valves increase in diameter, the contact area of the sealing surface rises exponentially, so the opening and closing torque of large diameter ball valves are significantly higher.

5. Applicable Valve Temperature Range

Butterfly valves usually have higher temperature ratings than ball valves and are preferred for high-temperature valve applications. Some butterfly valves have temperature ratings nearly double that of comparable ball valves. In terms of applicable temperatures, ball valves are not suitable for steam mediums and extreme industrial temperatures due to the structure and elasticity of the sealing materials. Butterfly valves are better suited in conventional saturated steam mediums for heating.

6. Valve Service Life

Both ball valves and butterfly valves can have a long service life (more than 15 years of normal use). Non-metallic parts play an essential role in the sealing structure of the ball valve and affect the valve’s service life. Butterfly valves generally have a pure metal-to-metal seal, so in general, butterfly valves have a longer service life. Also, stainless steel sanitary valves are built for longer working hours than standard valves.

7. Initial Price Value

For valves with a diameter equal to or less than DN300, ball valves are more cost-effective than butterfly valves. For valves with a diameter above DN300, the price of butterfly valves is more competitive. Butterfly valves are generally easier to manufacture, making them a more economical choice often preferred in large-scale applications.
